The animals on this page have been through terrible ordeals. Whether it be by neglect, physical abuse, or abandonment...these animals are TRUE survivors and have come such a long way. They are all looking for their fur-ever family that will treat them just as wonderful as they truly are!
ONYX
Onyx is an American Bulldog. He was found abandoned in the gangway of a house in Chicago, IL. Onyx was severely emaciated, appeared injured, and completely afraid. After over an hour, we were able to get Onyx out of the gangway and into our car. He went right in, as if he knew he was safe. Upon our vet's exam, we found Onyx to be over 35lbs under weight. He was limping due to malnutrition and sores on his feet. Onyx had a skin infection as well as a severe ear infection in both ears. That was on November 10, 2010.
Today, Onyx is a healthy and happy 85lb boy! He is now about two years old and just a gem to have around. He lives with dogs, cats, and three human boys, ages 11, 13, and 16. Onyx does great in the car and loves to play fetch and keep away with his toys. Onyx is "Special Needs" because he does have some trust issues. It takes him a bit to open up fully to a new person. He does not like people "in his face" (such as kisses on the head or face) by new people. He does not like to be surprised by approaching him from behind unexpectedly. His new owner will have to be patient and give him time to trust them. He opened up in about a month in his foster home. Due to his nervousness, we feel it is best he goes to a home with NO SMALL CHILDREN. Age 10 and up please. Onyx is good with other dogs with slow introduction. He ADORES cats. Onyx is housebroken, crate trained, FULLY VETTED, and LOVES the car. He will make the ideal dog for the right family. If you are interested in Onyx, please email us at info@rornfp.org.
